The Peet Op Shop Ball for Anglicare WA, held on Saturday 20th March, was a sell out with 800 guests arriving at the Burswood Entertainment Complex Grand Ballroom dressed in their Op Shop finery.
From 80s glam to army inspired tutus with combat boots and hot pink suits, guests outdid themselves this year in a storm of Op Shop fashion and colour.
The theme for the evening was revealed as guests arrived on the red carpet to walk beneath a balloon and love heart archway as they entered Cloud 9 - The Land of Love. As the Grand Ballroom doors opened, guests walked through a cloud filled pink and white decorated ballroom complete with giant hearts with white silk drapings creating a 'heavenly' feel as guests took to their seats in anticipation of the night ahead.
Hosted by Narelda Jacobs and Michael Schultz from Network Ten, The Peet Op Shop Ball for Anglicare WA provided yet another night of dance filled entertainment and fun with Frankie J Holden and Wilbur Wilde ensuring revellers couldn’t resist the dance floor.
Ian Craig of Anglicare WA presented Suitcase of Hope - an initiative launched at last year’s Ball to raise funds for specific areas of need within Anglicare WA. In 2009, thanks to the generosity of the Ball Community, every Anglicare WA foster child received a Suitcase of Hope.
This year Suitcase of Hope continued with a new focus - to assist and provide support to traumatised and vulnerable children who come through our Children’s Counselling Services.
For $500, a Suitcase of Hope would help support one child, with items to assist the child with their journey of healing and therapy process and would include items such as toys, journals, crayons and scrapbooks, a dream catcher or cuddly pillow to name a few.
Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the Ball Community 144, children will receive a Suitcase of Hope this year. An incredible and inspiring result!
The night continued with the Live Auction providing plenty of entertainment with the incredible items on offer including a Champagne Dinner at Fraser’s Restaurant, trips to London, Sydney and Bali, a brand new 2010 Volkswagen Golf and an exclusive Private Executive Jet Escape!
Towards the end of the night, guests were surprised by a very special cameo appearance by Craig McLachlin who wowed the audience as he joined the band for a twenty minute set including his classic hit ‘Mona’.
The Peet Op Shop Ball for Anglicare WA 2010 was an overwhelming success netting over $200,000 for Anglicare WA.
Anglicare would like to sincerely thank all of our sponsors and guests for making this such a special night.
