Suitcase of Hope 2010 - Children's Counselling
Every year, Anglicare WA provides specialised counselling to traumatised and vulnerable children who come through our Children’s Counselling Services. Many of these children live in high risk environments and even after months of counselling, many find it hard to talk about their experiences. Without assistance, it can rob them of the joys of childhood and the cycle of despair may never be broken.
This year Suitcase of Hope continued with a new focus - to assist and provide support to traumatised and vulnerable children.
Guests at The Peet Op Shop Ball for Anglicare WA 2010 raised funds to provide a Suitcases of Hope to 144 children in counselling.
Thanks to the Ball Community’s overwhelming response, 144 children in our children’s counselling services will be presented with their very own Suitcase of Hope. It will be filled with their tools of triumph and may contain arts and crafts, a beautiful diary, pastels, crayons and books. Or it may contain a special pillow to cuddle or a night light to light the dark nights – all items to assist in the healing process.
The child will also experience a happy goodbye upon completion of their counselling, with a small party with their counsellor.
It is a celebration of their bravery.
It is a celebration that will give them hope and a chance to laugh again.
Update
To date, 34 children have received a Suitcase of Hope. The response has been overwhelming with one counsellor sending a very simple email saying ‘thank you, thank you, thank you!’. It's a hive of activity with Anglicare volunteers and staff preparing each suitcase for delivery to our service locations.
