Suitcase of Hope 2011 - Homeless Young People

For the young people who are homeless in Western Australia, every day is a struggle. These young people don't choose to be on the streets - They are there because their lives have been so tough or unsafe at home that they have no alternative but to leave home. They have been let down by the very people they should be able to love and trust.

The 2011 Suitcase of Hope is the most challenging ever. It deals with youth homelessness. This area of our services is not cute – this is a reality that is shocking and tragic for far too many young people in our community. Many of these young people do not get to experience the joys of being teenagers; their high school Ball, a special birthday party, quality time with their parents or simply a stable and safe home to return to each night.

Anglicare WA offers five youth service programs in 12 locations around the metro area, including the Young Parents Support Program, YES! Housing, Step-1 Streetwork Program, Y-shac and Foyer.

Thanks to the wonderful generosity of our Ball Community, this year’s Suitcase of Hope won’t be so much about material things. This year, Suitcase will provide the basics, like clothing, but also education, work supplies and safe housing to 181 homeless young people who access Anglicare WA’s Youth Crisis Accommodation Service (Y-shac).

They will learn to live well.

They will learn to respect and love themselves.

They will be able to rebuild their lives.
